Omaha Citizens Exercising Their Right to Petition the Passage of City Council "Code of Conduct."

Hello, On July 30th 2024, nine members of the public attended an Omaha City Council meeting in person during work hours to give public comment in opposition of Ordinance 43933, the Omaha 'City Council Code of Conduct." Public comment provided good points, suggestions and perspective. Letters of opposition were mailed as well. Despite it all, the City Council voted to move forward with the ordinance, without any changes or edits, in a 6 to 1 vote. The purpose of this petition is for the Omaha City Council to listen to the public and reconsider the passage of this ordinance. To host more townhall meetings with the citizens of Omaha before placing on the 2025 ballot. Based on 2023 Nebraska Revised Statutes, Chapter 14 - Cities of the Metropolitan Class, 14-211 - Ordinances; when effective; repeal by referendum; procedure gives the citizens of Omaha the right to petition an ordinance passed by the Omaha City Council. According to NE Statute 14-211, the deadline is August 22nd at 4:30pm to turn in 1,901 signatures from voters for the City Council to reconsider. If successful, and the City Council decides not to reconsider the ordinance, then the City Council will have to provide it to the public as a ballot measure. This is all happening very quickly, signature pop ups will be sporadic.
